On 4th September 2022, ACCIN organised a Dinner and Dialogue session with Mr. Hidayetullah Oğuzhan, the President of International Union of East Turkistan Organizations from 8pm to 10pm at Hotel Furuma, Bukit Bintang.
Allied Coordinating Council of Islamic NGOs hosted this event in order to facilitate dialogue and discussion among Malaysian NGOs together with the Uyghur delegation on our next steps after the release of the long-awaited report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) last Wednesday by outgoing UN High Commissioner of Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.
OHCHR confirmed through their findings that the arbitrary detentions and restrictions of freedoms “may constitute international crimes, in particular crimes against humanity”.
While the report should have been released much earlier, the findings are a blow to China’s narrative which insists that no violation of human rights whatsoever are happening in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
It is hoped that we can organise more of such events like this Dinner and Dialogue in order to strengthen cooperation between Non-government Organisations (NGOs) and to create more awareness on the atrocities committed by China against the Uyghurs in the name of ‘stability’ ‘de-radicalization’ and ‘counter-terrorism’.
